You Shouldn’t Live Life Split By A Toll Booth

Does the very thought of forking over a fee to drive to work and having to pay another fee to drive home sound…stupid? It should. And that is exactly just what can happen for those who are not careful about where you rent an apartment in Charlotte.

The city wants to expand I-485. The changes are now being welcomed with open arms by almost all residents, who consider the current traffic predicament nauseating. The highway will be widened by two or three lanes between the I-77 and Johnston Road exits. There are discussions of further expansions from Johnston Road right down to Rea Road. The work should begin in 2013 and wrap up around 2015.

In addition to the expansion, the city is thinking about the addition of a toll booth to fund the project. City planners consider making the express lane a toll lane, where drivers could pay to hurry past traffic. An equivalent project failed miserably in Atlanta, and so the city is searching for alternative solutions for example a good old fashioned toll where everyone pays, or some other resourceful device. When it comes down to it, the project could be financed by taxpayers (you) or drivers on I-485 (you also) so perhaps there is not a great deal of difference.

You can stay away from the new toll all together by searching for apartments in Charlotte, NC cautiously. If the city decides on a toll booth, it will probably be set up between Johnston Road and I-77 so make an effort to rent a property just outside of that bracket of I-485 when possible.

In the event that isn’t possible, you can search for Charlotte apartments near alternate routes such as US 521 and US 21, which could allow you to commute without going near I-485. Try an apartment off of State Route 51 and State Route 16 if you’re searching to relocate further southeast inside the perimeter.
